You Have the Power is proud to announce a revised and expanded edition of When Violence Hits Home, our resource guide on domestic violence.
The new guide examines common myths about domestic and intimate partner violence, reframing such abuse as more than a temporary loss of temper, or even an ongoing dispute between partners, but a deliberate and systematic attempt by one person to control and dominate the other.
The document also includes guidance for people trying to help friends and loved ones entangled in DV/IPV situations, including a sample safety plan for people trying to leave or escape their abuser. It details the domestic shelters, legal resources, and specialized counseling services available at the national, state, and local level. Finally, the new edition includes an updated reading list and incorporates gender-inclusive language, acknowledging that partner violence is not an exclusively male-on-female phenomenon.
When Violence Hits Home is available free of charge to the public. YHTP frequently provides copies to domestic violence shelters and activists across Tennessee.
Additionally, we offer complimentary copies to all participants in the domestic violence/healthy relationship presentations we stage at area colleges, churches, and civic group meetings.
Visit our resource guide library at http://www.yhtp.org/education/dvds-and-books/ to download the new edition. To order hard copies or find out more about our domestic violence presentations, e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (615) 292-7027.
